BSL in our hands

BSL in our hands – is a movement started by the British Deaf Association. They are making a stand to demand a world where every deaf child has the language to share their hopes, dreams, fears and ideas. We want British Sign Language in the hands of those who need it most.

So how can you play your part, and what what exciting impact can the promotion of BSL in the mainstream have for D/deaf children’s hearing peers?……

Signing with young people is a gift, in so many ways. Beside the obvious communication benefits for people with hearing loss, it provides an extra level of connection and community when a child’s hearing peers are able to step into their world with them. But it doesnt stop there! Signing has priceless benefits for people with a whole spectrum of learning and communication needs.

As a kinesthetic language it is extremely accessible for all learning styles, but it also provides an extra means of communication to those who may struggle to make themselves heard for so many reasons… and let’s not forget, signing is tons of fun!

Rather than collecting signatures the BDA ‘BSL in our hands’ movement is collecting HAND PRINTS!….. If you would like to do your bit by adding your hand print to the cause here is a quick and easy video on how!:
